Boy oh boy... Mouthus.. I can't overstate my love of this band.. YS toured with them TWICE. They remain one of my fav bands from the 00s.. Mouthus were maybe more of a "rock" band than YS was, but we shared a similar mission.. MURK ABOVE ALL.

I first heard of them on Karl Bauer of Axolotl's recommendation and picked up their Psych-o-path CD, which is just a monolithic slab of sound, equal parts, Dead C, CCCC, whatever other chaos jammers you want to throw in there... I'm sure Brian would reference some classic rock, but that is not my bag. Anyway, Mouthus came to SF with Double Leps and borrowed Ryan Jenks wall of amps and basically made the venue uninhabitable from sheer volume. it was perfection..

Touring with them was always a blast.. We had planned to hit a dude's house in NC for a recording session, Mr. Ned Morland wanted to get us all on record.. So we rolled up after some gigs sliding south from NYC on the way to this sesh.. Can't remember exactly what town it was, but we ended up playing a warehouse and sleeping in a "tea room" in some sort of old downtown foot mall sort of situation.. As you can guess, on tour, there are nights where you gotta keep your head on straight in case you have to shake down a promoter for your cash or drive after the gig... But this wasn't one of those nights.. We agreed we would "go totally Conan" and Gabe picked up a 24 pack "of the local finest macrobrew" but the tea room had belgians around too.. So.. we went in.. went Conan, then rolled up to this session feeling like molasses, stranded on Conan Island..

about

Yellow Swans Portland, Oregon

From their 2001 founding to the duo’s final shows (and subsequent hiatus) in 2008, Gabriel Mindel Saloman and Pete Swanson aka Yellow Swans carved an influential path through America’s experimental music underground, at the axis of noise, psychedelia, industrial, drone, and hardcore. Their music is restless, ragged, and forever in flux, untethered and unresolved. ... more
