I had never heard of Pitchfork this day when I started getting emails and phone calls congratulating me for having a YS album reviewed on their site. Well, I shouldn’t say album, it was a limited to 50 CDR that we put together for a west coast tour. We were given a 7.1, compared favorably to Tortoise and the review basically said “this is good, but they’re figuring it out.” Which is fair, we were. This basically was released with two other CDRs, Detestifi and Against Sleep And Nightmare, which are all fairly different. Detestifi is more beat heavy and features an improvisation on what would eventually become “I Woke Up” from Psychic Secession. Against Sleep and Nightmare is barren and heavily influenced by our time playing with local electro-acoustic improvisers. Duh is something else. Bright, drawn out, droning, layered. I can hear where we went in this CDR. Pitchfork had it right on this one.. We were figuring it out, trying to build our own music.
